Summary

Will we get it all in? We hired a minivan with a driver and helper to take us from the “guest house” (motel) in Freetown to the Bible School campus in Magburaka for $100. This journey on our first day in Sierra Leone took about six hours to cover 120 miles.

To the left is a view of our home for six days. In 2002 we were dismayed to find this principal’s residence was one of the buildings looted during the civil war. The national church refurbished it so we could stay there while attending the conference about a mile away.
There was another little “white man” at the conference. An albino certainly stands out in African culture! They usually have skin and eyesight problems especially in the tropical climate.
At the conference there was also a large contingent of blind people. One evening we saw the “blind leading the blind” to the front of the church for a special song. I believe it was my first time to see a blind choir.

We were grateful for the use of a small generator to provide lighting in the early mornings and evenings. Being near the equator (7 degrees north) daylight is from 7 am to 7 p.m. Some other amenities included 55 gallon drums of water kept filled everyday by bucket from a well and a two burner kerosene stove to heat water and cook some food. It wasn’t the Hilton but it was adequate. We appreciated the efforts of the national church to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Thanks for all your help!
