Goal # 3 - $1000 to be used towards a pressing mission project.

The decision of what to use these funds for reflects the vision of the church leaders. One of the pastors at the conference by the name of Moses Humper, had recently returned from doing a survey work in Monrovia Liberia. He was to determine the feasibility of pioneering a church there. Liberia is another West African country to the south of Sierra Leone trying to recover from their own decade of civil war. The prospects looked promising so they decided to give the $1000 to Moses as the initial funding for this first “missionary” endeavor of the Free Gospel Church of Sierra Leone. They told him this may be the only help he gets for ten years. It will need to be a “faith effort”.
As part of the survey it was determined that to rent a place to live would be about $1000 for a year.
I found it insightful, that even though there were churches that needed to be built and that there is a need to purchase better transportation for the mission work besides a wide variety of other needs the money could have been used for, they decided to use this “found money” to reach out beyond their country’s border. Their vision is inspiring!
