March 2006
TO ALL OUR FRIENDS EVERYWHERE:
u “When The Lord turned the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream…” Psalm 126:1. Sometimes I feel somewhat like that when I consider all the Lord has done and is doing in foreign missions. 2005 was a year of success beyond reasonable expectations, including the number of new congregations started, churches built, motorcycles and other sorely needed equipment supplied, and improvements to properties; and most important of all those who have received the gospel, or experienced real spiritual growth.
u But this is 2006, and the trend continues to strengthen, to God be the glory! With world tensions at fever pitch, the work of the Kingdom continues its rapid advance. These certainly seem like what the scriptures describe for the “last days”.
u
Calvary
Missions was founded many years ago in Sierra Leone by Brother and Sister Cover.
Some years ago Brother Cover was called home. Health problems no longer permit
Sister Cover to oversee the work. She contacted me in 2005 and informed me it
was her desire to unite Calvary Missions with Free Gospel Missions, as their
constitution stated would be done if Calvary Missions ever dissolved.
u Over the past several months we have been working to achieve a harmonious merger that will further the work of the Kingdom and bring glory to God. It is of utmost importance that supporters of Calvary Missions continue their support in order that pastors may continue to receive the help they have been getting. From this point onward the support should be sent to the above address with a notation that it is for Calvary Missions. Thank you so very much for your help in this matter.
u
Intensive planning is under way for the busy months just ahead in the Philippines. First comes the graduation convention at Faith
Bible Institute, just as couple of weeks away.
Brother Matthew Vance has
agreed to preach that convention, and his arrival is eagerly anticipated. Then
begins the summer season with VBS of the churches, and three major Youth Camps.
In previous years youth camp was only conducted at the Bible School campus.
However, because many hours of travel are required for some, they requested
youth camps in their area. Thus this year youth camps will also be held in
Samar and in Isabella. The students at Free Gospel Bible Institute raised an
offering of almost $1700.00 to fund the
camp at Samar.
Guinea u
The new pioneer work in Guinea is showing rapid growth under the leadership of Paul Danso Kolif. Healings and miracles have been reported, including a blind woman who now can see! To date meetings are held in a temporary tent like structure, and a building is sorely needed. Valuable land has been donated but funds are needed to build. The local population, like much of that region of Africa are in poverty. It would take about $25,000 to put up a suitable multipurpose building. It would likely provide living space, as well as for a school and worship areas. This is a new mission field for us, a very needy one, and anything you can do to help will be appreciated.India u
From India we hear there is a growing number of converts in this great land. India is a huge nation, second largest in the world, and with very diverse lifestyles. They range from the poorest of the poor, to those who are quite wealthy. There is a rapidly growing middle class, and the need of the gospel is so very great. Unless government policy changes, evangelism is very restricted, and no foreign missionaries permitted. We are thankful that our national leader was trained many years ago, and can continue to preach and lead people to Christ.u
Recently we have received several inquires from other countries, such a Nigeria and Pakistan, desiring permission to start Free Gospel Missions and inviting me to come there and hold campaigns. We do not ignore such inquires but try to determine how legitimate and reliable these individuals are. A well educated brother in Pakistan already has a sizable mission work in that country and is seeking fellowship with us. He stated it is not funds but fellowship he desires. I have no plans in the near term for overseas travel, but he may come to the USA so that we can meet face to face and discuss how we can work together to the glory of God.u
It seems to me that God is opening new doors to Free Gospel Missions, and if so, our goal should be to be where He wants us to be, to be doing what He wants us to do, and to be doing it when He wants us to do it. We solicit your prayers for wisdom and guidance in these matters. I do not know if there is such a thing as a “missions expert”, but if there is, it is not I.u
The credit for what is accomplished, first goes to the Lord, but also to those who are on the field faithfully working day by day, both missionaries and nationals, and to you who support them in prayer and giving. It is my responsibility, and privilege to be sort of in the middle, sending on funds, giving what guidance I can, and coordinating the efforts.u
Then I can report back to you what we are accomplishing overall, and supplement the news you receive directly from overseas. A big thank you goes to sister Claire Beam who makes time in her hectic schedule to arrange so well and attractively these newsletters from the raw information I furnish her.u
So let us work and pray and give until, if Jesus tarries, we look back on 2006 and say, “it was even better than 2005!”
Sincerely in Jesus,
C. H. Heath, Director of Missions
